Maryam is a visiting scholar at the Center for Health and Risk Communication in George Mason University (GMU). She earned her PhD in Community Development and also completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship in Community Development and Health Promotion at the department of Social and Development Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, University Putra Malaysia (UPM). She was also working as a Research Fellow at the Cancer Resource and Education Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Putra Malaysia (UPM) while she was in Malaysia. She authored and coauthored several papers on international peer-reviewed journals and had papers presented at different conferences across the globe on the subject of community participation for breast cancer prevention. Her beginning to the world of social sciences and public health started with her working as a midwife in rural areas in Iran. Currently, she is also working with several national and global organizations focusing on women’s health promotion and empowerment.
